Sometimes I shock myself with the smart things I say and do. Other times I try to get out of the car with my seatbelt on.

eDay 2015 at Gateshead Library

Yet another successful day showing off our Spikerboxes and this time with the addition of some Arduinos. It is much more interesting building your own Arduino though, so in the spirit of Shrimping.it (the makers of Morecambe) I made some self-build core kits available. Both the Spikerboxes and Arduinos attrackted a great deal of attention. I took my Pi2Go Lite robot, driven by a Raspberry Pi along, but it wasn’t quite ready to run, so I could just tell people about it and what it is supposed to do. Even so, there was a lot of interest and excitement about the possibilities. By the end of the day my feet were killing and if it wasn’t for the help of my two minions, Stuart and Ben, I would have been totally dead. As you can see from the pictures below, the minimum requirements for my minions is a height of over 6’2″.

Our display of self build core kits (Arduinos) and some of the things you can do with them. There is the LED matrix strip (made from Minishift by Archnid), a LOL shield (Lots Of LEDs) and to in the middle of the table there is the Backyard Brains RoachScope that turns you mobile phone into a microscope. That off course has nothing to do with Arduinos but it is still cool and amazes people!

Ben showing a young visitor how to play flappy bird using nerve impules from his brain. The impulses are picked up by electrodes placed over the “thenar muscle group” in the hand.

Stuart building an Arduino. I never saw that the darn water bottle was obstructing the main focus of the picture … but at least you can see Stuart at work.
